Plant Of The Month
Muhly grass ( Muhlenbergia capillaris) is in full bloom and can be seen in many locations throughout Grand Harbor this month. Their beautiful pink/purple stalks can be seen as you drive out of the main gate to the right by the River #4 back tees, on River 12 and 13 along the cart path and by the Harbor Circle to name a few places.
Muhly grass is naturally found in Florida and is an easy to grow ornamental grass. In the fall, muhly grass produces fluffy pink to purple flower stalks which fade to a dark green foliage. They are usually planted in large groups and are often used in borders or mass plantings. They will perform best if planted in a sunny area and are draught tolerant after established. Muhly grass was voted 2012 plant of the year by the Garden Club of America.
