Plant of the Month

by Joan Klimm

White Mangrove

The mangrove group of trees includes red, Black,  white and buttonwood. The white mangrove is smaller with a single trunk.  It occupies higher ground, but can withstand flooding.

The leaves are oval an greenish white with two glands at the base. These glands produce sugar enjoyed by many insects.

The propagules are less than an inch long but contain leaves and stems ready for planting.

The habitat for the white mangrove is coastal southern Florida.
